What is AS9110?
Published by the Society for Automotive Engineers, AS 9110 is based on AS 9100 and adds specific requirements that are critical for the maintenance of commercial, private, and military aircrafts. This standard defines the quality system requirements based on AS9100:2000 with additional criteria for maintenance repair and overhaul facilities (MRO’s) serving the aircraft industry.
Formally titled “AS 9110 Quality Maintenance Systems - Aerospace - Requirements for Maintenance Organizations,” the standard was published January 2003 by SAE’s G-14 Americas Aerospace Quality Group (AAQG).
FAA 145 certified repair stations are prime candidates to seek certification under AS 9110. Entities seeking Parts Manufacturing Approval (PMA) from the FAA to manufacture aircraft parts and components would likely also seek AS 9110 certification.
The AS 9110 standard specifies the QMS requirements where an organization:
What is the Process Flow for Registration?
Though the pre-assessment process is optional, this assessment of an organization’s existing quality system reveals an organizations strengths and weaknesses relative to AS 9110 and can serve to reduce the time and effort needed to attain certification.
What are the Benefits of certification to the AS 9110 Standard?
Certifying your quality management system to the AS 9110 standards:
The Society of Automotive Engineers Aerospace division (SAE Aerospace) has been selected by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) to develop and maintain an informational database called OASIS (Online Aerospace Supplier Information System). The OASIS database will allow the many worldwide suppliers to the aerospace industry to verify their audited compliance to AS 9100, EN 9100, JISQ 9100 and other international quality specifications.
The IAQC OASIS database was launched on July 1, 2003 and continues to grow daily. Visit the OASIS database by clicking HERE.
